A "Must-Read" Book If You’re A Starving Artist... .....Or Know Of One ( i.e. recommend it to them)
Pursuing one’s dream as an independent artist or freelancer is the road to starvation. That’s the message that those of us who have chosen to step out on our own often hear from well-meaning friends and family members.
So when money gets tight, we often elect to take a side gig or seven in order to bring in some money. Yet a move like this can be counterproductive as it often leaves us with little time and energy to fully realize our creative calling.
So what gives? Jeff Goins in his book Real Artists Don’t Starve: Timeless Strategies for Thriving in the New Creative Age offers some priceless practical wisdom for making a living at your calling. He begins the book by asserting that the starving artist notion is a myth. In delivering an alternative view, Goins champions what he calls a New Renaissance, one where creative workers can make sufficient money so they don’t have to suffer for their art.
After personally completing Jeff’s great book, I had the chance to watch Goins on the show Chase Jarvis’ Creative Live talk in-depth about the artist's journey from a state of surviving to thriving.
I invite you to take a watch.
