A Word From Self-Described “Bad Bitch” Lisa Carmen Wang
Why Her Soon To Be Released Book Is Already Raising Eyebrows
I first met Lisa Carmen Wang in 2021 while serving as Managing Editor of a New York based Blockchain and Cryptocurrency digital publication. With her business savvy, unapologetic nature, and edgy ways on full blast I listened intently, capturing notes for the feature interviews I was writing about her at the time. Inspired by what she had to share, I wanted to jump up and kick some ass in the world.
Today, she is trailblazing a new path as founder, brainchild, and inspiration behind the BAD BITCH EMPIRE a global community and venture fund aiming to fuel a path to unapologetic worth and wealth for women. In anticipation of the Fall release of her new book The Bad Bitch Business Bible: 10 Commandments to Break Free of Good Girl Brainwashing and Take Charge of Your Body, Boundaries, and Bank Account, I had a chance to interview Lisa to get an update on what’s been happening in her world.
On Why She Wrote The Book
My entire career and life was the catalyst for this book. It captures some of the top lessons I’ve learned along the way. The root of the Bad Bitch Business Bible is about helping women break free of Good Girl brainwashing which are all of the societal and media messages that train women to stay small, silent and subordinate. It trains us to fear failure, rejection, and disobeying rules and authority. It prevents women from becoming their biggest, boldest, most unapologetic self.
On Her Definition of “Bad Bitch”
I define a Bad Bitch as a woman who takes charge of her body, boundaries, and her bank account. The book is informed by all of the lessons and mistakes I made as a Good Girl. I share how this is applicable to the reader and what you can do as a woman and leader to not make those same mistakes in your quest to proactively get the money, power, the respect that you deserve. You’ll hear about my journey from corporate to entrepreneur to angel investor and then to venture capitalist investing in female led business. The book in its truest sense is about empowering women to become a Bad Bitch Business.
On No Longer Being a Good Girl
I spent my entire early life as a Good Girl following the rules, people pleasing, staying silent, working for mediocre pay, and not asserting my boundaries. What I came to realized in the business world is that the good girl gets the coffee while the bad bitch gets the bag. And so as my career ascended, I discovered that women who have boundaries, women who assert their opinion, women who are clear on what they want and are clear on what they need to accomplish are frequently called bitches.
On Her Transformation
The biggest challenge in my evolution from “Good Girl” to Bad Bitch?” Well, its two-fold, one internal and the other external. The internal challenge was learning to unapologetically trust myself. This began with a belief that the big crazy dreams I envisioned were not in fact so crazy — that they were possible. And that I already had the skills and the superpowers and experience to accomplish the things that I wanted. Externally, it was about giving myself permission to want things because women who traditionally do this are considered to be selfish. That’s why so many women, particularly mothers feel guilt — they are not allowed to prioritize themselves or they feel that they can say no.
On The Word Bitch
The word bitch is one that has often been used to weaponize a woman’s power against her. When you call a woman a bitch, you are telling her that she is being too assertive, that she has too many opinions, that she’s speaking speaking up too much, that she’s refusing to obey. And when you weaponize a woman’s power against her you diminish her. You make her feel ashamed or afraid to be called a bitch. So my message is about women reclaiming their power back through the use of this word.
On Discomfort
People who are most uncomfortable with the word bitch, both men and women, are the ones who are in the closest proximity to old money and power and the segregated old ways of doing things. Yet, as I see it, the word reflects a new way in terms of bringing powerful women together to collaborate. It’s a very very new way of doing things, women moving from a scarcity mindset to an abundance mindset.
On Women Being Oppressed
Whether it’s Black, Asian, or any other culture, women continue to be oppressed. And a woman that get angered about this is considered a bitch — a crazy birch, a deranged bitch, one who is emotional and off her rocker. This is true especially in the business world where we are expected to be contained, polite, and rational.
On What She’s Hopes To Share With Other Women
I really want to share with women that they too can become an entrepreneur and/or an investor. That they can make their money work for them and for other women. There are also very tactical things I have learned in my career that I share in terms of helping women make their money work for them through the power of high growth female led startups.
On Her Greatest Hope With The Book
I hope that millions of women will be able to read my book and begin the process of unleashing their inner Bad Bitch. The book underscores the fact that women have no idea of how powerful they are because we have not been allowed to express our full range of emotions. So I hope to reach millions of women and help them start realizing that they’ve never needed permission to be powerful.
