It’s another “Great Books, Great Minds” week. Here’s an update on the latest news, weather, and sports about books.
My New Obsession With Cookbooks
I could barely boil an egg ten years ago. Now as the result of many hours of deliberate practice, I can now curate a world-class, make you want to lick the plate meal.
On this journey, cookbooks like this one from Nordstrom have become a growing fascination. So what about your culinary journey? And are cookbooks a part of it?
Speaking Of Nordstrom
This apparently isn’t the only book that they sell. Check this out. Talk about some edgy, sophisticated books for your collection….

Booming Interest in Black Books, Black Minds
In 2020, amid the racial justice protests following the death of George Floyd, I became inundated with requests for book recommendations about the historical experience of Black Americans. Since then my publication “Black Books, Black Minds” has seen a meteoric rise in interest that’s been beyond imaginable. If you are so inclined, check out my gallery of pieces here and let me know your thoughts.
My Dallas-Ft Worth Trip
If you are reading this and happen to be or are familiar with the Dallas Metroplex area then hit me up. I’ll be there next month and would love to visit with some non-fiction authors in the area. And local bookstore recommendations are always appreciated.

Finally, A Special Thanks to….
…….Andy Inhelder for recommending the book “The Go-Giver: A Little Story About a Powerful Business Idea” to me. Just listened to the audiobook and it was AMAZING. Look for a “Great Books, Great Minds” review from me along with a discussion about it soon.
I once met the co-author Bob Burg back in the day when we were fellow members of the National Speakers Association. Here’s an interview with Bob about the book:
Great Books + Great Minds is a member-supported publication for non-fiction book enthusiasts worldwide. To support our work and receive full access and exclusive features, consider upgrading to a paid subscription at $5.00/month or $50.00/yr.
Thank you for your consideration — Diamond (Michael) Scott
I live in Frisco, TX which is about 20 minutes (no traffic) north of Dallas. There are several indie bookstores here and the two that I recommend are Interabang Books on Lover's Lane and The Wild Detectives on 8th Street in Oak Cliff. If you like used book stores, the huge flagship store Half Price Books is on Northwest Highway and the 75 freeway.
Here is a link to a Thrillist story of the indie bookstores in the DFW area, along with a couple of "used" bookstores. Enjoy your trip here and tell us about it in a future newsletter. :)
Gayla, thank you so so much for the heads up on these bookstores. I’ll be sure to check them out.
