She Built a Multi-Six Figure Business: Now She’s Releasing a "Share All" Book About Her Journey
Building connection is my rai·son d'ê·tre. And even better if it's over a glass of wine at sophisticated wine war.
If my memory serves me correctly I met Kim Brady back in 2015. The Kitchen Restaurant (Owned by Kimball Musk, brother of Elon) is where we first crossed paths and quickly began a robust conversation. Nothing seemed off the table — life, business, sports — we covered a wide swath of emerging themes.
At the time she was involved in building a cleaning company that went from $0 to a multi 6-figures strictly through word-of-mouth marketing. It was successfully acquired by another owner after she had been in business for 10 years.
Today Kim’s a successful coach and mentor, she helps others leverage their entrepreneurial mindset and experience to grow careers, businesses, and lives. She adds:
“I use my soccer philosophies as a former collegiate athlete and soccer coach to empower people to follow their dreams and live the lifestyle they want. My counseling education and experience allow for deep empathy and understanding and a compassionate and direct approach to problem-solving.”
She and I have remained in touch and developed a budding friendship. What I love about her is that she doesn’t pretend to be anyone other than who she is. Nothing fake about her. Full of deep wisdom about life and business. She’s the real deal.
We recently reconnected via video conference. On that morning she apologized in advance for having to stand up frequently, the result of trying to make peace with a bulging disk in her back that had been tormenting her for weeks. Grimacing, she noted, “It’s the injury that really sidelined my soccer career that I had years ago. Once in a while, they flare up, but I’ve never been in this kind of pain before.”
Steadying herself, she announced that she was ready for the questions I was about to hurl her way. The main topic of discussion? Her soon to be released book “Get Stuck In Lessons From The Pitch To Build Your Business”
Michael: So I’m chomping at the bit to hear about your book. Can you share some of the details?
Kim: So it is scheduled to be released here soon. I’m so excited to be sharing it with others.
Michael: In what format will you have it in? Hardcover? Softcover? Digital?
Kim: So, they’re both. Hardcover for the first run. And then it will be launched on Amazon once it’s fully released. One thing that I’m not doing is audio because I don’t think I could read it well. I cry way too much in my interviews anyway. So, I don’t think it’ll do that.
Michael: WOW! I bet you are so excited.
Kim: I am. Can’t wait to sign them for everyone who pre-ordered a copy. I’m going to send them out individually to each of my customers, which feels really kind of cool.
Michael: Yeah, that’s great. So let’s talk about your book. I’m curious as to what in the midst of your building a coaching practice sparked your decision to write a book.
Kim: It’s actually been in the works for a very long time. I’ve had several friends over the years tell me I should write a book. And I was like, “what the hell am I going to write about?” You know, like “what is it about my life that you feel is so intriguing that you feel like someone else would care?”
Michael: So was there one person in particular that ultimately encouraged you to take the leap?
Kim: There is. My buddy, Robert. He’s published. He’s a professor. He’s a brilliant scholar of indigenous and African-American cultures. And we attended U.C. Berkeley together. He was like, “Kim, you have a voice, you need to use it.”
Michael: In the meantime, you’ve probably been honing your writing over the years?
Kim: You could say that. Over the years, there have been times where I’ve written random stuff online, kind of like a stream of consciousness. I'd write it out and receive a lot of responses from people who would say, “I really like your passion, I love that you’re such an advocate against racism and a strong supporter of LGBTQ issues. You’re willing to talk with people and share multiple viewpoints. You really need to write a book.”
Michael: So summarize for us the gist of what your book is about?
Kim: In the book, I share the story of how I got a business idea and decided to go for it. It explores how I went from being a therapist, salesperson, and corporate person to building a highly successful company, all without having any formal business background
It’s not only about how I built a business but the principles I used to build it. It’s designed to show people how to believe in themselves, to live their life and their journey, and to do it their way. I provide examples of how I can help them in the fundamentals of that process.
It’s basically like, here’s the journey. Here’s the pathway. Here’s the opportunity to work with me one on one if you’re so inclined.
