Turning The Page On Becoming World Class Elite
2019 was the worst year of my human existence. Without getting into all of the details, let's just say that life kicked my ass.
Things got so bad that I found myself living for a few months at Lestats, a 24-hour coffeehouse in San Diego. Yes, you heard that right — I was penniless and had nowhere to go after a relationship had abruptly ended.
Few people knew that I was struggling with nowhere to turn. But I kept moving with a relentless determination to see another day.
Today, I am hungrier than ever. In my quest to become world-class and elite, I have often found inspiration from this video by Ohio State Associate Head Coach Larry Johnson about no longer settling for average.
The good news is that I am now kicking ass like I never have before, which I attribute to my investment in self-development.
Honestly, I’ve long been committed to personal growth and expansion. But this time is different because I’m 1000% more thirsty after my brief period of being dehydrated by life.
So in the spirit of becoming world-class and elite, here are three books the themes of which I am thoughtfully integrating into my life:
Digital Minimalism: Choosing a Focused Life in a Noisy World by Cal Newport
What I Have Learned From This Book: That my social media habits were mentally draining, a distraction on my quest to achieving world-class, elite status. So in the past month, I deleted my Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest apps from all of my digital devices. LinkedIn remains but the overall impact of this move has been extraordinary.
The Wim Hof Method: Activate Your Full Human Potential by Wim Hof
What I Have Learned From This Book: In short, that “Cold Showers” rock! This one, 2-minute practice has been life-altering in terms of my energy levels and focus.
The Desire Map: A Guide to Creating Goals with Soul by Danielle LaPorte
What I Have Learned From This Book: Screw chasing goals! Danielle says it best: “You're not chasing the goal itself, you're actually chasing the feeling that you hope achieving that goal will give you.”
