What To Read When You’re Feeling Kinda BLUE
My fellow book aficionado Owen Sammarone (who I featured earlier this year in one of our “Great Books, Great Minds” digital editions) appears to have a thing for BLUE books. This picture he took and posted on LinkedIn a while back immediately captured my attention because BLUE is my favorite color.
Just did a quick check of how many of these books I’ve read. Sadly, I could only find five. Here they are
How To Be a Capitalist Without Any Capital by Nathan Latka
I read this book a year or so ago. While it had some good nuggets that any entrepreneurially-minded individual would value from, I found it a bit juvenile.
Blue Ocean Strategy by Chan Kim & Renée Mauborgne
In my view, this is one of the five most important books that any startup business person should have as a part of their library. The groundbreaking message presented by the authors is that instead of competing in a crowded business niche, carve out your own unique, uncontested market space, all with the aim of making any competition irrelevant.
Be Obsessed or Be Average by Grant Cardone
I agree with much of what Cardone advocates for in this book about pursuing what you want with an obsessive drive to succeed. That being said, the intensity of his messages always feels like I’m downing a strong cup of Ethiopian coffee that makes you jittery in the end. Therefore, I can only take Cardone in small doses.
The Startup of You by Reid Hoffman and Ben Casnocha
Hoffman, in my view, is one of the preeminent thought leaders in the startup world. This book has tons of practical insights that you can immediately apply to your enterprise-building efforts.
Influence by Robert Cialdini
A highly impactful book for anyone seeking to level up on their power of influence. I am currently on my second read of this book, the new and expanded second edition.
If you find yourself unable to read as many books as you would like because you’re time-constrained, Owen’s online community “Unleash The Knowledge” is something you should check out.
