Thanks for this informative look at Fort Collins’ charming bookstore. Like you, I love independent bookstores and try to support them. Scholastic book fairs brought back a memory. They would set up at CJ’s elementary school and the kids were SO excited—the 1990s.

(It is my atonement for reading magazines & books at Borders for hours in the cafe until they filed bankruptcy in 2011. I still feel guilt for buying more beverages than books there.)

Yes, the ecosystem of independent bookstores really resonates with me. I look forward to capturing more of these stories in the days ahead as a part of my global bookstore tour.

In the meantime, thanks for the throwback days reminder about Borders. What an interesting time that was in the book world.

If you are ever in the Netherlands, we have a number of beautiful and independent (or very small chain) bookstores.

I have heard great things about bookstores in the Netherlands from a friend who lives in Amsterdam.

I am loving reading the bookstore tour - I have no idea how I missed it until today, but read today’s and now I’m going back to read other pieces. I love this!! It has given me an idea for when I am next in the US to visit family - I always go to bookstores but without mindfully picking which ones. That changes now! Also, going to visit more bookstores here in the middle of Europe where I live and think about doing some photo-essays of them. Thank you!

I’m so glad I read this. I haven’t been to Colorado yet but it’s nice to see what bookstores are out there in the world, and how they’re contributing to society. Now I know who they are, (all the way from NY) and I can keep them in mind 😉
