I had never heard of Salman Rushdie or his books before, but the way you write about him is so compelling. I love the attention you gave to the book cover as well--the way the knife that stands in for the "I" looks like an actual cut through the page is chilling.
I’m very interested in reading this book and was particularly struck—almost mesmerized— by the cover, as well. Your excellent review confirms my interest. I'm going to see if they have it at my local library.
I was telling my 15yo about this book recently and he said “Why would you want to read that??” You have just explained the reasons perfectly.

I got to read this book. I was not even aware of it. Thanks for such poignant review.
I haven't read any of his books, although Midnights Children on my bookshelf for months. This looks like a book I would love.
